Delta Police Dismiss Reports Of Non-Compliance With VIP Withdrawal Directive

The Delta State Police Command has refuted an online report alleging that it violated the Presidential directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP duties, describing the claim as false and misleading.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, the Command said the report, published by an online platform, was based on unverified social media posts and did not reflect the true position of the Nigeria Police Force or the Delta State Police Command.

The Command specifically dismissed allegations that police officers remained attached to a resident identified as Sunny Nwakaego in Sapele, stressing that no personnel are assigned to the individual as claimed. According to the police, the report should be disregarded in its entirety.

Clarifying the circumstances surrounding the issue, the Command explained that on December 12, 2025, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Sapele Division received a distress call from two individuals, Precious Itorho and Believe Odorkor, against one Sunday Okeke. The dispute, which arose from an undisclosed business transaction, prompted police intervention. All parties were invited to the division, statements were recorded, and they were subsequently granted bail while investigations continue.

The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its full compliance with the Federal Government’s directive, as conveyed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, on the nationwide withdrawal and redeployment of officers from personal VIP attachments to core policing duties. It noted that the implementation of the directive has been carried out in a structured and professional manner to ensure public safety is not compromised.

Reiterating its commitment to the safety and security of residents, the Command urged members of the media to verify information through the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer before publication.
