The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, on Thursday intensified efforts to strengthen community policing and crime prevention as he continued his familiarisation tour of the state with a strategic visit to the Ughelli Area Command.
During the visit, the police chief paid a courtesy call on the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Wilson Ojakovo, Oharisi III, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration in the fight against criminality across the kingdom.
CP Oyeniyi commended the monarch and the people of Ughelli Kingdom for their unwavering support for the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that effective policing depends largely on strong partnerships between security agencies and traditional institutions. He reiterated the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on strengthening grassroots policing through strategic engagement with traditional rulers and community leaders.
The Commissioner noted that intelligence sharing remains critical to tackling cultism, kidnapping, illicit drug trafficking, armed robbery, and other violent crimes. He assured the monarch that the Delta State Command would continue to discharge its constitutional responsibilities with professionalism, respect for the rule of law, and protection of citizens’ fundamental human rights.

Responding, the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom pledged the palace’s continued support for law enforcement efforts, declaring that no criminal would be protected because of ethnic or community ties.
The monarch warned that shielding offenders today could endanger the community tomorrow, adding that the kingdom would continue to provide credible intelligence and support security initiatives aimed at maintaining peace and order. He further expressed confidence in the Police, describing the people of Ughelli as longstanding partners and friends of the Force.
The visit also featured separate interactive sessions with community stakeholders as well as officers and men of the Ughelli Area Command.
Addressing stakeholders, CP Oyeniyi called for stronger cooperation with the Police through the provision of timely and actionable information capable of preventing crime before it occurs. He emphasised that security remains a collective responsibility requiring active participation from all segments of society.
In his address to officers, the Commissioner stressed the importance of discipline, professionalism, and civility in interactions with members of the public. He directed personnel to adhere strictly to the Force’s Standard Operating Procedures and warned against any conduct capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force.
The police chief also reminded officers that compliance with the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy is mandatory, cautioning that unauthorised use of social media platforms or actions that could bring the Force into disrepute would not be tolerated.
He urged officers to remain committed to the vision of the Inspector-General of Police for a professional, intelligence-led, and people-oriented policing system capable of meeting the security needs of Nigerians.
If you’d like, I can also make it sound more like a front-page newspaper report with a sharper, more dramatic headline and lead paragraph.
