Yuletide Security: Enugu Police Recover Firearm, Reaffirm Commitment To Crime Prevention

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained, proactive crime-fighting aimed at protecting lives and property across the state during the Yuletide season and beyond.

CP Giwa gave the assurance following the recovery of a cut-to-size single-barrelled gun by police operatives attached to the Igbo-Eze South Police Division on Boxing Day, December 26, 2025.

According to a press release signed by the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the operatives were on routine security surveillance around the Jimoh Rauf Badamosi (JRB) Mini Stadium, Ibagwa-Aka, in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area, when they noticed a male suspect suspiciously holding a black polythene bag. On sighting the operatives, the suspect reportedly abandoned the bag and fled the scene before he could be arrested.

A search of the abandoned bag led to the recovery of the firearm concealed inside it. The police said efforts have been intensified to identify and arrest the fleeing suspect, as well as to determine his criminal intentions.

CP Giwa has directed officers and men of the Command to sustain the current momentum in crime prevention and ensure that Enugu State remains peaceful and secure throughout the festive period.

While wishing residents a peaceful and joyous Yuletide celebration, the Commissioner of Police urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and security-conscious, and to promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
