YATS DG Faults Hakeem Baba Ahmed’s Claims On Tinubu, Defends Military Cooperation With U.S.

The Director General of the Youth Alliance for Tinubu and Shettima (YATS), Hon. Oche Silas, has dismissed claims by Hakeem Baba Ahmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu humiliated the Nigerian Armed Forces and ceded the country’s sovereignty to the United States.

In an open letter issued on behalf of the support group, Hon. Silas described the allegation as misleading, insisting that the President’s actions were in line with established international practices among sovereign nations confronting transnational security threats.

He explained that what occurred was a strategic collaboration between Nigeria and the United States aimed at strengthening the country’s security architecture, noting that such cooperation does not in any way undermine national sovereignty or the professionalism of the Nigerian military.

According to him, Nigeria has battled terrorism and insurgency for over fifteen years with devastating consequences, particularly in the northern part of the country, and successive administrations had struggled to decisively tackle the challenge.

He said President Tinubu, as Commander-in-Chief, took a bold and responsible step to confront insecurity head-on by leveraging international partnerships.

Hon. Silas urged Nigerians to support, rather than politicise, efforts aimed at improving national security, stressing that international cooperation is a sign of responsible leadership and commitment to protecting lives.

He added that YATS, which actively supported the election of President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, would continue to speak out against what it considers a distortion of facts and attempts to undermine initiatives taken in the national interest.

The YATS Director General, therefore, called on Hakeem Baba Ahmed to withdraw his statement, maintaining that Nigeria’s security should rise above politics, personal opinions, and sentiments, as the safety of citizens remains paramount.
