The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Chief Mrs. Olufunmilola Disu, has undertaken an unannounced welfare tour of police barracks in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), providing immediate support to widows, women traders and families of police personnel ahead of the 2026 POWA National Convention.
The two-day outreach, conducted on July 14 and 15, covered Area C Police Barracks, Nyanya, and the 44 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Barracks, Kuje.
Accompanied by members of her management team, Mrs. Disu moved through the markets within Area C Barracks without prior notice, interacting directly with women traders, widows and spouses of serving officers. During the visit, she observed several sparsely stocked shops and listened to accounts of the economic hardships facing many police families.
In response, the POWA President approved immediate interventions for selected beneficiaries, including cash grants, business starter packs and food items aimed at helping them restock their businesses and improve household welfare.
Many of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the timely assistance, describing it as a lifeline amid prevailing economic challenges.

Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Disu said the outreach was intentionally carried out without prior notice to enable her team obtain a true picture of the living conditions and challenges confronting police families.
According to her, firsthand engagement with beneficiaries is essential for developing welfare programmes that effectively address their needs and improve their quality of life.
The intervention was carried out under the POWA CARES Initiative, a programme focused on sustainable healthcare, welfare support and economic empowerment for police families. The initiative is also aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The welfare outreach comes ahead of the POWA National Convention scheduled to hold from July 16 to 18, 2026. The convention, themed “The Resilient Woman: Navigating Life’s Challenges with Strength, Purpose and Grace,” will focus on healthcare, mental wellness, economic empowerment and strengthening family support systems.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to providing practical and dignity-preserving support to widows of fallen officers and the families of serving personnel, while strengthening welfare initiatives across police communities nationwide.
