Governors of the 19 Northern states have reiterated their commitment to strengthening security and deepening collaboration with the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) meeting held on Monday at the Gombe State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.
The meeting, chaired by Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, brought together governors from across the region to deliberate on pressing security and developmental concerns affecting Northern Nigeria.
In the communiqué, the forum reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Federal Government in tackling evolving security threats, emphasizing the need for collective action to ensure lasting peace and stability across the country. The governors also called on Nigerians to support the President, the armed forces, and other security agencies in safeguarding national security.

The forum commended the joint efforts of member states in addressing regional challenges, noting that ongoing collaborations were already yielding positive results. It pledged to sustain and strengthen these partnerships to consolidate the gains recorded so far.
On institutional development, the governors endorsed ongoing efforts to strengthen and restructure the NSGF, stressing the need to build a more coordinated and effective body capable of driving strategic engagement and policy implementation. They also resolved to support the digitisation of the forum’s secretariat to enhance efficiency and continuity.
In a move to improve internally generated revenue, the forum agreed to engage consultants to develop strategies for identifying and harnessing taxable revenue opportunities across the region.
The governors further resolved to sustain engagement with the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer, particularly on the establishment of the New Nigeria Energy Company (NNEC), aimed at facilitating the Sun Africa Project.
The meeting ended with an agreement to reconvene at a later date to be announced.
