Maikaya Pledges Support For Cultural Heritage At Irewha Hunting Festival

A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election in Nasarawa State, Musa Muhammed Maikaya, has pledged to sustain and promote cultural legacies if elected governor.

Maikaya made the pledge on Saturday, December 27, 2025, while attending the annual Irewha Hunting Festival in Shafa Abakpa, Toto Local Government Area of the state. He commended the Shafa Abakpa Community Association (SACA) for preserving cultural heritage, fostering unity, and promoting development within the community.

The APC chieftain expressed gratitude to Governor Abdullahi Sule for restoring peace to Toto Local Government Area, noting that improved security has enabled residents to put aside past differences and focus on development.

“With peace finally returned to Toto Local Government Area, residents are now contributing meaningfully to efforts aimed at accelerating development,” Maikaya said.

He praised the people of Shafa Abakpa for their respect for culture, describing it as a catalyst for socio-economic growth through hard work and communal commitment. Maikaya also lauded the Toto Local Government Chairman for initiatives aimed at reviving the area’s development prospects.

Highlighting the significance of the Irewha Hunting Festival, Maikaya described it as a celebration of Egbira heritage that strengthens community bonds and stimulates local economic activities. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the festival and other cultural events if elected governor in 2027.

Toto Local Government Area has recorded improvements in security and infrastructure under the current administration, creating an enabling environment for cultural activities to thrive.

The festival attracted large crowds from across Toto Local Government Area and beyond, including first-class traditional rulers and government officials from within and outside Nasarawa State. Activities at the event included traditional hunting displays, cultural performances, and communal feasts, reflecting the resilience and unity of the Shafa Abakpa community.
