Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has urged Christian faithful and residents of the state to draw strength and hope from the Word of God as Christians around the world celebrate Christmas.
In his 2025 Christmas message, issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, Governor Diri described the season as a time for deep reflection, particularly in view of the collective grief still being experienced in the state following the passing of his deputy.
The governor acknowledged the pain and sorrow of the moment but encouraged Bayelsans to look beyond their grief to the comfort and light symbolised by the birth of Jesus Christ. He noted that even in times of mourning, believers are called to embrace a deeper spiritual truth rooted in faith.
According to him, Christ’s birth represents hope for the broken, the grieving, the weary and the oppressed, assuring humanity that no situation is beyond divine intervention. He emphasised that God does not promise a life free from pain but assures His presence and grace through life’s challenges.
Governor Diri referenced 2 Corinthians 12:9, which states that God’s grace is sufficient and His power is made perfect in weakness, describing this message as the core of his Christmas reflection for 2025.
He stressed that God’s love shines most brightly in moments of human weakness and urged the people to hold firmly to faith, even when circumstances seem overwhelming.
The Bayelsa helmsman wished residents of the state and Christian faithful across the world a merry and joyful Christmas celebration. He further called on everyone to celebrate the season with reverence, modesty and renewed hope, reminding them that Christ remains the ultimate Comforter through the Holy Spirit.
