Maikaya Declares Interest In Nasarawa Governorship Race Ahead Of 2027

Musa Muhammed Maikaya, an administrator and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared his intention to contest the Nasarawa State governorship election in 2027.

Maikaya made his declaration at a rally in Lafia, where he outlined his vision for the state under what he described as a “Nasarawa Next Level” agenda, focused on inclusive growth, economic development and social cohesion in line with the APC’s progressive ideals.

A native of Toto Local Government Area, Maikaya said his aspiration is anchored on his experience in private sector leadership, community development initiatives and youth mobilisation. He noted that his engagement with grassroots organisations during previous elections contributed to the APC’s successes in the state.

Addressing supporters at the event, Maikaya said Nasarawa required leadership capable of fostering unity, harnessing the state’s solid mineral resources and creating sustainable jobs for residents. He identified solid minerals development, agriculture and youth employment as key pillars of his proposed administration.

According to him, his plans include industrialising the solid minerals sector, establishing agro-processing hubs in parts of the state such as Keana and Doma, and expanding opportunities for youths and women through vocational training and access to finance.

Maikaya also pledged to prioritise security and social harmony through community-based policing initiatives, which he said had yielded positive results in past projects he was associated with.

Reacting to the declaration, APC stakeholders in the state described Maikaya as a loyal party member with strong grassroots appeal. The APC State Chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Bello, was quoted as saying that Maikaya’s emergence reflected the party’s emphasis on competence and continuity.

Party leaders, including women and youth representatives from the 13 local government areas of the state, were reported to have expressed support for his ambition, as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually take shape.

With the declaration, Maikaya joins a growing list of political figures positioning themselves for the Nasarawa governorship contest, as political activities begin to gather momentum across the state.
