The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) is set to receive a monthly salary increase of N5.39 million following the House of Representatives’ approval of the salary bill.
The executive bill, approved on third reading in the lower house, also stipulates that the President of the Court of Appeal will receive a monthly package worth N4.48 million, while Justices of the Supreme Court will receive a total package worth N4.21 million.
In a similar vein, judges serving on the Court of Appeal are entitled to receive a combined monthly remuneration of N3.73 million. In contrast, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, President of the National Industrial Court, Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Grand Khadi, FCT Sharia Court of Appeal, President of Customary Court of Appeal, Chief Judge of a state High Court, Grand Khadi of the State Sharia Court of Appeal, and President of a state Customary Court of Appeal will receive a total monthly compensation of N3.53 million.

Additional benefits not included in the monthly total include leave benefits, estacode per night of $2000 when applicable, duty tour benefits when applicable, an N80.78 million severance gratuity upon successful completion of employment, and an optional car loan that must be paid back before the end of employment.
Before the law, the Chief Justice of Nigeria received a monthly salary of around N560,662 from the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), which is made up of his base pay and a few allowances. The total amount includes a basic pay of N280,331 as well as allowances for a personal assistant (N70,082), hardship (N140,165), and outfits (N70,082).
