…… Meet Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Commanders
The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has presented a Settlement Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Scheme benefits, amounting to N2,086,801,144.79 to families of police officers, who died in active service.
The cheques were presented at the Force Headquarters in Abuja to the beneficiaries on Thursday.
In his remarks, IGP Egbetokun stated that the gesture was a part of the IGP’s efforts to support the families of the deceased and to show sympathy for their ongoing struggles.
He appreciates President Tinubu’s commitment to putting police personnel’ and their families’ welfare first and the Force Insurance Office for their tremendous efforts in making the initiative a reality.
The introduction of the IGP Family Welfare Scheme and Group Life Assurance, according to Force Insurance Officer CSP Ameh Lydia Enemona, will significantly lessen the grief experienced by the families of fallen police personnel.
The presentation to the families and Next of Kin of deceased officers for the insurance policy covers the years 2015/2016, 2017/2018, 2021/2022 and 2022/2023. under the Group Life Assurance Policy and the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Insurance Scheme. The distribution further solidifies the commitment of the Police Force to support the families of officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Cumulatively, the Nigeria Police Force, through the Force Insurance Office, has been able to settle a total number of Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Thirty-Three (2,533) insurance claims of deceased Police personnel amounting to Six Billion, Thirteen Million, Forty-Three Thousand, Three Hundred and Twenty-Six Naira, Fifty-One Kobo (N6,013,043,326.51k) between June 2023 to date.
The son of the late Assistant Inspector General Donald Awunah, who was the AIG in charge of Zone 16 Yenagoa, Bayelsa, Donald Awunah Jnr on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked the IGP for his kind gesture in ensuring they receive the IGP Family Welfare Scheme and Group Life Assurance on time.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police IGP commended the Explosive Ordinance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological Nuclear Unit (EOD-CBRN) Officers and commanders. He harps on Professionalism and proactiveness.
He lectured and shared his experience with the commnaders, being a former CP Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD).
The IGP has promised support and regular training for the mandatory other specialized units of the NPF.
EOD-CBRN are responsible for the detection, location, rendering safety, and disposal of explosive threats. These threats include chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons, as well as improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
