Police Neutralise Armed Robbery Suspect, Recover Firearm In Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has recorded a significant operational success with the neutralisation of an armed robbery suspect and the recovery of a firearm during a patrol operation along the Lafia–Obi Road.

The incident occurred on Friday, December 26, 2025, at about 7:45 p.m., when operatives attached to the Jenkwe Division, while on intensive patrol, encountered a five-man armed robbery gang that had reportedly blocked the highway to carry out criminal activities.

According to a press releass signed by Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the suspects engaged the patrol team in a gun duel upon sighting the police. During the exchange, one of the suspects was neutralised, leading to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol and one live round of ammunition. The remaining members of the gang escaped into the surrounding bush with suspected gunshot injuries.

The body of the neutralised suspect has been recovered and deposited at the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital. Police authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

The operation was carried out in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, to intensify raids on criminal hideouts and ensure a peaceful Yuletide period across the state.

Commending the operatives for their gallantry and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police urged them to sustain the momentum and continue taking proactive action against criminal elements.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has reassured residents of its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property throughout the state.
