The Delta State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on cultism and violent crime with the arrest of 13 suspected cultists and the recovery of multiple firearms, vehicles, and other dangerous items during a tactical operation in Ethiope East Local Government Area.
According to a press releass signed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation followed credible intelligence received on December 20, 2025, indicating that suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity, also known as Black Axe, were planning an initiation ceremony at the Ekraka Community Forest in Kokori.
Acting swiftly on the information, the Commander of the Quick Response Squad (QRS), SP Collins Achem, mobilised operatives to prevent the suspected gathering.

According to the Command, at about 11:00 p.m., QRS operatives stormed the identified location but were met with armed resistance from the suspects.
A brief gun exchange ensued, after which 13 suspects were arrested, while others escaped further into the forest.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of two automatic pump-action guns, one double-barrel cut-to-size gun, one single-barrel cut-to-size gun, a battle axe, aprons bearing “NBM” insignia, cut razor blades, mobile phones, charms, and suspected hard drugs.
Seven vehicles believed to be owned and used by the cult group were also recovered and towed to the QRS Base in Warri.
The arrested suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue to determine their individual roles, dismantle the cult network, and apprehend other fleeing members.
The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on cultism and violent crime, urging parents, schools, community and faith leaders, and youths to join forces in combating cult-related activities through guidance, positive role models, and timely information sharing. Residents were also encouraged to remain vigilant and support the Police with credible intelligence to enhance security across the state.
