The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, PhD.
In a condolence message issued on Monday, the Board, Management and Staff of the Commission extended heartfelt sympathies to the Government and people of Bayelsa State over the loss of the late Deputy Governor, describing his passing as a great blow to the state and the nation at large.
As a mark of respect, the NDDC announced the suspension of the commissioning of its projects in Bayelsa State, which had been scheduled for December 16, 2025.
The Commission described Senator Ewhrudjakpo as a man of candour, exceptional dedication and unwavering commitment to public service, noting that these qualities earned him a reputation as a tireless and hardworking leader.

The statement highlighted his contributions to Bayelsa State and Nigeria, recalling his impactful tenure as Commissioner for Works, where he played a key role in driving infrastructural development, as well as his distinguished service as Senator representing Bayelsa West in the 9th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to the NDDC, the late Deputy Governor served with humility, integrity and patriotism, leaving behind a legacy of selfless service and principled leadership that will continue to inspire future generations.
The Commission prayed for God’s comfort and strength for the family of the deceased, the Government and people of Bayelsa State, and all those mourning the loss, while wishing the late Senator eternal rest.
The condolence message was jointly signed by the Chairman of the NDDC Governing Board, Mr Chiedu Ebie, and the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, Ph.D.
