Police To Resume Enforcement Of Tinted Glass Permit January 2

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced that it will resume the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy nationwide from January 2, 2026, citing rising security concerns and the need to protect lives and property.

In a statement issued on Monday, signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on December 15, 2025, the Force clarified that there has never been any court order restraining it from enforcing existing laws regulating the use of tinted glass on vehicles.

However, enforcement was earlier suspended in the interest of transparency and public convenience, to allow motorists sufficient time to regularise their documentation and complete the permit registration process without undue pressure.

The Police noted that recent security assessments have revealed an increase in criminal activities carried out using vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass. According to the Force, criminal elements have taken advantage of the enforcement gap to conceal their identities while committing offences such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.

“In view of these developments, the Nigeria Police Force has found it necessary and urgent to resume full enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit as a proactive measure to safeguard communities across the country,” the statement said.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, assured members of the public that the renewed enforcement would be carried out professionally, with due respect for citizens’ rights and in strict compliance with extant laws. He reiterated the Force’s commitment to public safety, the rule of law, and collaborative engagement with stakeholders to ensure national security.

Motorists who require tinted glass permits were advised to apply through approved channels and ensure full compliance with legal requirements before the commencement date.
