The Edo State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is set to honour Chief Bankole Balogun, a former Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), posthumously.
A letter dated 18th March 2025 and signed by the duo of the Chapter’s Chairman, Mr Festus Alenkhe, and its Secretary, Mr Andy Egbon, explained that the award was in recognition of the late broadcaster’s immense contribution to the media industry.
The letter, addressed to Chief Oladele Bankole-Balogun (the Oteniete of Igarra), Executive Chairman of the Edo State Internal Revenue Service and son of the late legendary broadcaster, states that the award will be presented during a Music Fiesta organised by the Edo NUJ on May 11, 2025.
The letter explained that “as the former General Manager of Bendel Broadcasting Service (BBS), Chief Balogun was instrumental in shaping the vision of the station and laying the foundation for what it has become today.
His dedication, leadership, and passion for journalism have left a lasting impact on the profession and the broader society.”
The late Chief Balogun served as the Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) from 1990 to 1992.
