…….Recover firearm and stolen vehicle
In a significant crackdown on criminal activities, the Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of several suspected cultists and the recovery of a firearm and a stolen vehicle during a raid in Sapele town.
According to a press release on Thursday, 3rd July 2025 signed by the Delta State Police Public Relations officer, SP Bright Edafe, acting on credible intelligence, operatives from the CP – Special Assignment Team (CP – SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, executed a well-coordinated operation on Yoruba Street, leading to the apprehension of a key suspect, Rasheed Atanda, a 31-year-old native of Irinle community in Kwara State. Further investigations revealed additional suspects linked to the incident, resulting in the arrests of Charles Oyowe, 36, from Obeda in Warri North LGA, Rewane Ogbitse, 49, from Jakpa in Warri South LGA, and Shedrack Oloko, 44, from Ethiope East LGA.
During the operation, a Beretta pistol, along with three rounds of live ammunition, was recovered from Oyowe’s possession. The arrested individuals have reportedly confessed to their affiliation with the EYE confraternity, a group known for its illicit activities in the region.
In a related development, police also confirmed the recovery of a stolen Lexus EX 330 Jeep, further emphasising their commitment to combating crime and enhancing public safety in Delta State.
All suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue, with authorities urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
This operation marks another step in the Delta State Police Command’s ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and foster a safer environment for residents.
Operatives from the Commissioner of Police – Special Assignment Team (CP – SAT) successfully recovered a Lexus 330 Jeep that had been reported stolen during an armed robbery incident earlier this month. The operation took place around 6:35 AM on UTI Road, off DSC Expressway, following a thorough investigation initiated after the crime was reported.
The robbery occurred in the early hours of the day when armed suspects invaded a residence, seizing expensive jewellery, mobile phones, and the luxury vehicle, which bears the registration number RBC 656 CN. Thanks to quick intelligence work, the operatives were able to locate and retrieve the stolen jeep.
Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, praised the CP-SAT operatives for their rapid response and effective coordination throughout the operation. He highlighted that the successful recovery of the vehicle is a testament to the critical role played by timely and credible information provided by the community.
CP Olufemi emphasised the necessity of proactive community engagement, urging residents to report any suspicious activities immediately. “Prompt reporting of criminal activities is vital in enhancing the police’s ability to respond decisively and prevent further crimes,” he stated.
Ongoing efforts are being made to apprehend the remaining members of the robbery gang, as authorities remain vigilant in their fight against crime in the area
