Sylvester Nwakuche Ndidi, the Acting Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCS), and other senior NCS personnel were received by Inspector-General of Police IGP Kayode Egbetokun at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja on Friday, February 14, 2025.

The main goals of the meeting were to strengthen the Nigerian Criminal Justice System as a whole and improve collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the NCS, with an emphasis on effective crime prevention.

The Acting CG also elaborated on the NCS’s ongoing rehabilitation and reformation processes, which aim to transform correctional facilities into centres of rehabilitation rather than mere confinement. Additionally, he mentioned the NCS’s initiative to develop an updated criminal database to ensure a comprehensive record of offenders and their respective offences, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the correctional system.

The IGP reinforced the shared vision of both agencies to ensure the overall effectiveness of the Criminal Justice System and pledged the commitment of the Force to working closely with the NCS towards achieving shared goals.

In another development, the Inspector-General of Police also received a courtesy visit from senior officers of the ASP Course 22/2005 who clocked 20 years in service at the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja. The IGP, during the visit, congratulated the officers on their journey so far and encouraged the officers who serve as role models to always show commitment to upholding the rule of law, integrity, accountability, transparency, and justice, which form the core values of policing.

The Nigeria Police Force reassures its obligation towards justice and expresses its optimism that high values, professionalism, and collaborative efforts with the Nigerian Correctional Service and other relevant agencies will result in meaningful reforms and improved outcomes for the criminal justice system in Nigeria and the country as a whole.
