…..As 139 Suspects Arrested, 154 Kidnapped Victims Rescued in 2 Weeks; 17 Arms, 604 Ammunitions Recovered

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, recently established the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This action has strengthened the FCT’s security architecture and resulted in the arrest of 139 suspects, the recovery of 3 GPR Chargers, 2 AK-47 rifles, 1 Type-06, 4 locally fabricated guns, 1 Berretta pistol, 2 Makarov pistols, 4 locally fabricated pump action guns, 504 pieces of ammunition for AK-47, 100 pieces of ammunition for AA, and the unharmed rescue of 154 kidnapped victims.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, paraded the suspects on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the FID-IRT office in Abuja. He mentioned that one of the notable recent successes was the interception of a group of people along the Abuja-Kaduna motorway who were major suppliers of weapons and ammunition to bandits operating in the states of Niger, Zamfara, and Kaduna. More recently, early on Friday, January 26, 2024, men from the IGP-SIS confronted some armed bandits in the FCT-Kaduna axis in a vicious gunfight, neutralizing three of them, including Mai-Gemu (aka Gadoro), the leader of their group. The gang and its camp have been devastated by this operation.

On January 21, 2024, IGP-SIS agents apprehended two powerful gun-running kingpins who had been arming many attackers in the country’s north-central region using locally manufactured weapons and ammo. In the Jikwoyi neighbourhood of the Federal Capital Territory, the squad apprehended two kidnappers and seized multiple firearms and ammo from them during a gunfight in which they were routed, and their victim was freed.

To combat any potential criminal activity, the Inspector-General of Police has ordered the tactical deployment of multiple IGP-SIS operatives to areas within the Federal Capital Territory that are still experiencing security breaches. This is in addition to his repeated declaration that the SIS will be expanded beyond the FCT to other states in the nation.
