The Social Intervention Advocacy Foundation (SIAF) has challenged the Ministry of Police Affairs to ensure that they prioritize the timely delivery of approved budgets for the Special Intervention Squad via the Presidency.
In a tweet on its official X (Twitter) handle, the Social Intervention Advocacy Foundation said that no needless bureaucratic bottleneck must impact critical police already approved budgets while security vulnerabilities claim the lives of innocent citizens and smother the peace of the nation.
The statement read, “Our foundation, the Social Intervention Advocacy Foundation (SIAF), doesn’t wait for the negative impact of government policies before we act as advocates and interventionists. You must be proactive rather than reactive if you want to make a meaningful and timely impact.
“We only hope that the Nigeria Police will emulate this by initiating their Special Intervention Squad that responds in a timely fashion, specifically to emergencies.”
“This is one of the reasons why we facilitated the Police Trust Fund 2019 and the Police Act 2020. The Ministry of Police Affairs is hereby challenged to ensure that they prioritize the timely delivery of the approved budgets via the Presidency.
“A premium must be put on human lives, and we must not be collaterals of institutional greed. No needless bureaucratic bottleneck must impact critical police already approved budgets while security vulnerabilities claim the lives of innocent citizens and smother the peace of our nation.
“We need answers on the cause of the delays.
Recall that the Federal Government re-established the Ministry of Police Affairs out of the former Ministry of Interior pursuant to the present government’s cardinal objective to strengthen the internal security architecture in the country.
The Ministry is to, among others, initiate, formulate, and implement policies and programs relating to policing and internal security, as well as provide supervision and administrative support to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Police Academy (POLAC), and the newly established Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF).
The Ministry is to provide political will and administrative support for the Nigerian Police Force to operate as an efficient, well-motivated, well-equipped, and people-friendly police force.
In the present administration, a renewed determination is being pursued to conscientiously tackle the security challenges facing the country by boosting the funding of the Nigeria Police Force. The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria signed into law “The Nigeria Police Trust Fund Establishment Act, 2019” on June 24, 2019.
